Volunteer – Make a difference in someone’s life!

Volunteering for Reliable Hospice is a great way to make a Difference in the lives of patients and their families while contributing to your community. Volunteering your time even a couple times a month can bring a smile to a lonely patient, or give a well-needed break for their caregiver.

We have so many different ways you can use your talents and skills! Our volunteers meet new people and can feel good knowing what they do matters.

What Do Volunteers Do?

Reliable-Hospice-Volunteers

The answer is our Volunteers can do Anything.  Reliable Hospice has several programs in place that benefit our patients and their families.  To learn more about our programs, click here.  Here are just a few ideas of what our volunteers do:

  • Visit with patients– Lonely patients LOVE to have visitors brighten their day!
  • Support a Veteran– Can you spare an hour once a week to visit with a Veteran and listen to their stories of their time serving in the military?
  • Do you Love to read?– Many patients just can’t read anymore but miss a good mystery or hearing stories from the Bible.
  • Do you Love to shop? We need volunteers to run little errands, pick up groceries or sometimes buy small gifts at the request of patients for birthdays/graduations/family events.
  • Can you help with light housekeeping?– Families who care for a hospice patient could use help with catching up on light housekeeping. Even one hour of your time would really make a difference!
  • Do you have green thumb and love to garden? – Many of the caregivers taking care of their loved ones don’t have the time to take care of their gardens and outdoor spaces.  Any time you can give to make their home nicer makes a huge impact.
  • E-mail helperOur elderly patients and their caregivers may not be tech savvy but would Love to contact friends and family. Can you spare some time to help them reach out so they can communicate with their grandkids and families?
  • Office assistance– We can always use help in the office keeping our hospice running smoothly. Our office helpers assemble family information packets, help

Our Volunteer Programs

Volunteer - Make a difference in someone’s life!

Our hospice volunteer program is continually growing and our volunteer’s commitment and enthusiasm is a big reason why.  We are currently working on several exciting programs that could use your help.  Each of them in their own way makes a huge impact in the lives of our patients and their families.  Volunteers can select which programs they’d like to participate in and how much time they are able to donate.

Here is a brief overview of what our Volunteers do:

  • Celebrate The Moments of Your Life (Life Review) – Every life is made up of wonderful stories, exciting events and adventures, and memories of family and friends that weave together to make up the fabric of a person’s life. The team at Reliable Hospice believes that capturing their story so family and future generations can continue to celebrate the moments is a special way to honor their family member’s life.  Our volunteers meet with the patient and/or their family to interview them and talk about important events in their life.  We gather photos and videos, select music and volunteers actually create a short DVD video that will be gifted to the family.
  • Birthday Club – Birthdays are an important celebration in the lives of our patients. Volunteers available on that day accompany our volunteer coordinator as we deliver a birthday cake and balloons, sing Happy Birthday and spend time to celebrate this important milestone.
  • Veteran’s Program – Reliable Hospice and its volunteers work with local Veteran’s group to arrange for a “pinning ceremony’s” that honor our veteran patients for their service. This ceremony includes members of our staff, volunteers, the patient’s family and some members of the community.
  • Pet Therapy Program – For many patients, the site of a dog or the touch of their fur brings comfort and peace and can provide lasting social and emotional benefits. Our volunteers accompany our trainer and dog as they visit patients.
  • Outreach Programs – Our outreach program aims at providing education to the community on our hospice services and volunteer opportunities. Our volunteers, along with our volunteer coordinator work with local community youth programs, senior programs, and community centers to provide awareness of hospice services and volunteer opportunities.
  • Bereavement Program – Reliable believes in taking care of our patient’s family as much as our patients. That’s why we offer support programs for families for one year after our patient has passed.  Our volunteers assist with communicating with families through phone calls, cards, letters and visits.
  • Office Support – Many of our volunteers will “pitch-in” to support our office staff as needed. Many hands make the work more efficient.
